Dhamma Talk Video 162: The Buddha Knew Human Nature
Here’s a 56-min recorded video (161MB .mp4 - Tip: tap-and-hold to “Download link”, or right click to “Save Link As…“).
Topics:
-
human nature, the nature of friendship, character traits which only emerge over time, indicators of a true friend, rather than a shallow deciever, not taking friendship or support for granted, trustworthiness, Devadatta, armchair psychology
Sutta References:
-
AN 7.36: “A Friend”
-
AN 4.73: “A Superior Person”
-
AN 4.242: “Benefits of Relying on a True Person”. A rare sort of sutta which has a similar theme as “The Cook”, and “The Roof Peak”: look to the resultants, look to the spiritual progress directly achieved through the support. There’s going to need to be getting to know someone, should one be able to give tailored advice that actually helps them beyond just basic material support.
